Amy Mahaffey was the brightest and most beautiful light.
She told the story of the love of Jesus so well, and with her whole life, she gave Him away. In Amy, we saw and felt Jesus. She knew Him so well. He was her story and her song. He flowed out of her like a bucket full of holes and splashed onto others. She gave breath to our hearts, life to our souls, joy to our days. She loved people wholly, saw them fully, cherished them deeply.
Alongside her husband JP and their three beautiful children, Amy battled sarcoma bravely for almost five years. Through it all, she worshipped and prayed. She was faithful. She was radiant. She taught us so much. Amy attended every single Ember, never missing the chance to worship with women across her city. Amy loved to worship – to raise her hands, sing beside friends, pray for others, and volunteer next to her beautiful daughter, Grace. She was such a huge part of this ministry.
We are deeply humbled and honored that Amy has requested that gifts in her memory be given to this ministry. Ember brings women across Charlotte together to worship, pray, and be found and reignited in the presence of Jesus, sharing and making much of Him in Charlotte. Amy embodied these things. Her legacy is eternal and beyond measure. 100% of gifts given in Amy’s honor will go towards continuing to make these city-wide worship events that she loved so much possible.
Amy has seen His face, heard His voice, held His hand. She is whole and home, and she would tell you that Jesus is everything and more that she imagined Him to be. We who loved her, who remain, will carry this gospel torch. We will carry on until we see her again, until we worship with her there, strengthened by the race she ran, the love she gave, and the testimony she lived.
Jesus, thank you for the profound gift of Amy Elizabeth Mahaffey. We know you better and feel you nearer because we knew your Amy. What an everlasting legacy…
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now
there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord will award to me
on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8
